The main purpose of assessment and evaluation, which is an indispensable part of teaching and learning, is to provide feedback on the learning process. With strategies and tools that enable students to understand what they know, understand, do and feel during the learning process, the teacher tries to identify the child’s interests, understand how she/he thinks and improve the learning experience. Shares evidence of student progress with the child, families, and colleagues.
Evaluation of the development and learning of young children is an important part of the planning process. It informs us about continuous improvement, learning and teaching. Children are observed in different situations and various assessment strategies are applied. Teacher observes kids for following reasons;
Creating a clear picture of the child and her/his interests,
To determine what and how the child thinks and learns,
To evaluate the effectiveness of the environment on the learning process of the child,
Improving the child’s learning experience.
The teacher takes into account what the child says during observing. By listening carefully to the dialogues among children, especially used in theatrical plays, the teacher learn about the interests, knowledge base, level of participation and social skills of the children. In order to get to know the inner world of the child better, to analyze the interaction within the group, to find the strengths and weaknesses of the children, to interpret the effects of classroom activities, the teacher shares these observations with the children, colleagues and, when necessary, families.
